“Didn’t Ask” is a song inspired by my experiences, like many people who’ve grown up socialized as women have shared: catcalling and encountering unsolicited, annoying, and potentially life-threatening interactions with men. The intention with this piece is to reach people who have felt a similar frustration. The song is upbeat, with simple lyrics that conveys a concise message for surviving urban life as an “auntie” – in the wake and remembrance of missing and murder Indigenous women, girls, trans folks, and 2 Spirit people.
The song is a blend of alternative/indie rock, pop & electric genres. With a BPM of 90, 4/4 time, and in the key of F major–the song is an upbeat, energetic, and danceable song–with a blend of acoustic and electronic instruments to create a dynamic sound.
